Description
1950s Schwinn Large-Tube Frame, 23"Not your regular old Schwinn
, this vintage one is of the type with a
brazed
frame with
1-1/8 inch downtube and seattube
, like the more classic European bikes or Schwinn's own later Super Sports. This is in good shape except for the paint. It has a Schwinn Continental
badge
. In the days before derailleurs came to America, this was a high-end bike. Evidence on the frame indicates it had a 3-speed rear hub, also common on high-end bikes in those days. There is no fork with this but it is easy to fit a replacement; originally it would have had the Schwinn "shrugging shoulders" fork and there are a lot of them still around.
*
23"
frame size, center of crank to top of seattube
* The
bottom bracket is threaded
,
not
the pressed-in Ahtabula one-piece crank, so you can install an alloy crankset if you want to
* Serial number: hard to read but it shows: ??
574
?? I can't tell how many digits might have been on either side of those numbers
* Rear forkend distance is now 121mm, but
since this is a good steel frame
, that dimension can be changed easily
* The trademark Schwinn kickstand is an
unusual
tapered shape, see pic
